USS Guardian-A was a Galaxy Class starship launched in 2481 as the successor to the destroyed USS Guardian, retaining the senior crew, command structure, and mission of the old ship. Like its predecessor, Guardian-A patrolled the zone of Deep Space 5. It continued running sorties against the Shadow Empire until their defeat in 2483.

The senior crew was reassigned after this. Johnny Johnson joined Captain Sam Mercury aboard the special operations vessel USS Mercury while Gary Vermont and Dave Barker both transferred to USS Talmidon. Tim Simmons was promoted to Captain and assumed command.

Guardian-A went on to see action in the Undine War, Borg Wars, Operation Omega II, and Thedude War. It is still active as of 2516.
