Knights of the Olde Speech

User blog:FleetCaptainT/Nebula Class

Nebula Class is more compact but not necessarily smaller than the Galaxy Class.  A familiar relevance is immediately apparent as their saucer, engineering, nacelle, and pylon elements are largely the same in general shape and scale.  On the saucer edge, minor details in fact differ, and the taper of the engineering section is new.

Using blueprints from https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/uss-nebula-ncc-61795.php I took on constructing a Nebula using parts from my Galaxy, just as I have done in the past to construct my prior Nebulas, taking parts from their contemporary Galaxy counterparts.  I haven't kept my Nebula as up to date as the Galaxy, so the new Nebula's improvements are drastic.

Now presenting over the years: the Nebula Class.

My first build of the Nebula Class was completed on October 24, 2010 and uniquely I made a model for each of the Nebula's three on-screen variants.

A minor update to the popular variant shunted the superstructure to the fore.

After updating my Galaxy, the Nebula received the new design language of roof-tile pieces accordingly, in February 8, 2011.  The design, especially the aft profile, remains inaccurate.

June 3, 2011 saw another update to the Nebula, again following a Galaxy update, with new nacelles and a shapelier engineering hull design, but still inaccurate in the rear.

A minor update the next day recolored the superstructure.

Next month's update oddly restored the old superstructure, while decreasing the height of the engineering hull.

January 5, 2012: The gray superstructure returns and the rear of the ship is made more accurate. I didn't know it at the time, but the Nebula's saucer impulse engines are actually closer together and smaller than the Galaxy's. This Nebula's, of course, is a duplication of the contemporary Galaxy's.

This brings us to March 26, 2019. As is traditional, the Nebula is built with Galaxy parts. This time I paid attention to the differences between the two ships. Ex-Astris-Sciencia has a comprehensive article on this subject. http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/nebula.htm Seven years-worth of new LDD parts and construction skill brings us a much shapelier, more accurate, and more more pleasing Nebula Class starship model.
