Talmid, is it possible that you share your father's program with other users? Like for instance can you try to post the code in the Boards? I'm sure it will be appreciated if you manage to do it.

The program itself is operated by a command line, in a program called Cygwin.  I actually don't know how to operate it.  I'm thinking a similar, more easily usable program might get created like the LEGO Universe Creation Lab Archiver that someone made when the CL was going down.  Since the entire LMBs are going down, this may spur someone else to make a working program.

Otherwise I'm not sure how usable my dad's program would be to anyone other than my dad. :\

Also, I've been wondering. Your father said that the archives will have proper format as long as the LMBs support the particular format. When the Boards go down, will the archives just be a little messy or will they be completely unreadable?

I can check right now how the last LMB archives look with my internet disabled.  You can do the same thing with your copy of them, just first disable your internet to replicate viewing an archive without it being able to pull down information from LEGO's servers.

It ends up looking not much like the Messageboards, as in images and backgrounds disappear, see this.  I think it remains readable, you just need to watch for the post titles.  Apparently it only downloaded text but wasn't able to get local versions of the images.  Oh well.
