I didn't read the whole thing, but it sounds like they think the current menu is more user-friendly than the expanded versions that wikia admins were creating. So their reasoning is probably something like: Better menu = more clicks = more ads = more money. If not that, I don't know why'd they want to control it so much. Then again, it's not like I'm giving it enough thought to be confident in my answer.

Here the Wikia staff explain it's on purpose that we cannot modify this anymore. They also deleted a page showing how to make sitewide banners (I figured it could serve as a secondary header of sorts, but...) as being against Terms of Service. So they really want to push this uniform look. CSS and JS customization is forbidden with the new header.FleetCaptainT wrote:

Or even more likely, it's: Worse menu = more clicks to get to what you want = more ads = more money. Yeah, I think that's probably it.
But the font family is irrelevant to that! :P
Yeah, I have no idea why they don't let anyone change the font anymore. :P
