You can't judge a book by its cover and you certainly can't judge a book by its film! :P I think your comparison of the two franchises is mistaken. They may be both fantasy, but they are pretty different books.
And besides I didn't read the Harry Potter books about eight times for no reason. It seems a bit excess doesn't it? But I suppose it's happened.
