May I say that Mara is incredibly cool? She lives up to Legoboy and it's not even a placeholder image! :P
As for the curse, it depends. If you see it as an anti-electricity curse, then it'd be fine. If it's an anti-(new) technology curse, though, it is possible that gunpowder might malfunction as well. In the state of the half-working curse, gunpowder and steampunk technology would probably work better than electrical devices (and beyond), but we should decide if we want to go one way or another.
