Excelsior is a starship model I had yet to truly capture the brilliance of. From October 2010 to December 2011 I produced eight distinct iterations of the ship, and two separate versions for the standard Excelsior (I was biased toward the Refit Excelsior as it appeared in Star Trek VII: Generations.)
My take on the Excelsior was always oversized. The initial model had some creative design choices, typical of my original style and virtue of the Design-By-Me palette I used religiously in 2010. Reasonable accuracy was attained rather early in the lineâs second iteration when I downloaded the RMM Excelsior and
shamelessly reverse engineered it. Typical refinements to the saucer design would occur with the general improvements in design language over time. But the increased scale of the RMM Excelsior would remain intrinsic to my Excelsior through its final and 8th iteration done in December 2011, and untouched since.
The 9th Excelsior was constructed from the saucer down in the span of this morning on March 14, 2019. It is smaller than the previous Excelsior and up to date with the latest elements and 7 years worth of new design techniques.
