Summary
In another dimension the Nexus Force never had a chance. The Nexus was still saved, but barely. With less Imagination to work with, the Faction Leaders' effort was doomed from the start. The Maelstrom, under mysterious, unanticipated, and uncounterable leadership infected everything in the fragments of Crux, but the call for corruption was unsated. Spacefaring Maelstrom infected the nearby worlds. Infected starships took Stromlings to new worlds. Infected factories built more starships than ever before. All of Kadrus was infected, and satellites were sent in the direction of other galaxies, but the limit of one universe was not enough.
Subatomic disruptions in space-time were identified and utilized when explorers from another dimension brought their Maelstrom into the reach of the Maelstrom Dimension. The explorers who came, two sets of them, were corrupted and the Maelstrom discovered Unverse travel. There was a meeting of the Maelstroms, an alliance between three Darkitects, and two more dimensions were infected.
Soon the top minds of the Maelstrom Dimension learned how to reach other dimensions, and the Dimensional War began. Dimensions interesting and uninteresting fell. But the defenders of some dimensions were stronger, more prepared, and able to fight back. Corruption did not come fast enough for the Maelstrom and in its hunger one Darkitect absorbed the other, but the third fled, relinquishing his control to the one who remained. Now in control of the entire Maelstrom forces, he became the First Darkitect.
