I wonder about it too. I think, with a bit of editing, it could fit in the time before the Syntax War - but it may be easier to say it takes place after Scattered Ashes, when all is said is done - but it would be easiest for it to not take place in the timeline.
We can perhaps create a vague canon event inspired by it and say that took place before the Syntax War when they were Knights for Hire.
