Elepharia is a land located to the south of Morcia, across the equatorial river. The land used to be famous for its annual Skyfalls event.
Points of Interest:
Elepharia was the home of the Elephanters (See entry for Elephanters on page 362). Every year the Elephanters had a giant festival celebrating the Skyfalls (See entry Skyfalls on page 3218). There were Skyfall tours, and games, and postcards, and toys, and all sorts of other stuff related to the Skyfalls.
The Skyfalls were what made the Elephanter rich and prosperous, although, as their name suggests, they lived with, cared for, herded, and raised elephants. Elepharia had a boat building industry as well.
Contrary to what you would think, the tourism to Elepharia is very low. The Ocean Pass (See entry Ocean pass page 789) was too rough for travel by ship, and the gravitational changes caused by the moon made travel via spaceship or aircraft way too dangerous. Due to the eternally medieval setting imposed by The Wizard's Curse, the people of Elepharia had limited contact with the outside world as well as any technology from there as well. Phones and such were a rarity only the rich could afford.
Celebrations:
Many different games and booths were set up to take advantage of the unique environment caused by the nearby moon. Water fountains which were normal for most of the year made pictures and patterns during the gravitational pull of the skymoon (see entry for the moon Scea. For information of gravitational changes after destruction, see Scea Field). Dance routines were routine where people did triple back flips and soared fifty feet into the air. And of course, you canât forget the Weightless Laser Tag.
Dangers:
However, despite its potential for fun, the skyfalls were potentially dangerous. All ship travel is canceled for the month before and after the event to avoid any ships being sunk by the skyfalls. Pedestrians are warned not to look directly at the center of the skyfalls, or their vision could be permanently damaged by the rays of the sun magnified by the water in the air. And of course, during the peak of the event all personnel were mandated to either be inside their house or inside a government approved, enclosed building (such as the laser tag arena). This was because during the peak of the event, when there was complete weightlessness, if someone where to go outside and jump, they would slowly float up into the air. One of two things would happen.
1. They would continue floating until they reached outer space and smashed of asphyxiation. This rarely happens, however, because of number 2.
2. They float hundreds of feet into the air, and then when the gravity starts to return they fall back down, usually suffering minor injuries such as broken bones. Since the gravity doesnât return to normal immediately, they do not gain enough speed to be potentially fatal unless you landed on your head or something like that.
Although the gravity doesnât return to normal immediately, it increased back to its original strength much more quickly than it decreased at the beginning of the event.
Time Span:
Technically the moon affected their gravity months before the event, but the observable affects werenât visible until the week of the event. There is usually a one hour period where gravity was pretty much useless, during which everyone had to be inside. And in the middle of this hour is a ten minute segment where gravity is completely gone. After the hour, the momentum of the moon caused it to slingshot around the planet, and the majority of gravity returns to normal in just a few hours. Technically it takes a week for gravity to return completely to normal, but for all practical purposes it takes around a day.
History:
Elepharia is most famous for being the sight of the battle which pretty much ended the Syntax / Grammar War. Sure, there were a couple stragglers from the Knights of the Old Speech (See entry KOTOS on page 672) After thedude (See entry on page 296) successfully routed the Knights of the Old Speech, or KOTOS, as they called themselves, he destroyed all Elephanter weapons to prevent any possible uprising. He even destroyed their moon as the first test subject of his secret weapon (The name of his weapon is unknown. Entry is labeled âRad Washing Machineâ on page 2655 until further information is gathered. See speculations in appendix D). The moon wasnât completely destroyed; evidently The Dudeâs secret weapon wasnât fully operational. But it was knocked out of orbit and shattered into several smaller moons. Ten years later the Elephanters did start an uprising, complaining that thedude tricked them into a battle they did not wish to participate in. Now, fifteen years after the end of the syntax war, the skyfalls are stories and the Elephanters are destroyed. Long live King Dude the 7500th!
