Summary

Kate is the second primary character in the Stromling Saga series. She is well-known for her red colored hair that has changed from flame-red to copper-red in the edited version of The Search posted on this wiki. Kate is unique in that her three-part name is never used in the original Stromling Saga stories and is so far only hinted at in Song of the Swans.

Appearances

Kate first appears in Chapter One of Servant of Darkness, introducing her as a main character to the entire Stromling Saga. She is a main character in every story of the Stromling Saga and in the series sequel Song of the Swans.

Personality Changes

In the original Servant of Darkness, The Search, and Full Circle versions Kate fits the character archetype of Damsel in Distress. She stammers, avoids killing, and is often rescued by Cyclone. Kate's bravery and independence are increased in Full Circle. In the edited wiki versions of these stories the archetype's obvious traits have been toned down to try and rationalize the transformation to Kate's Song of the Swans character.

In Alone in Space and Time and The Darkest Night, books five and six of the series, Kate encounters another Imagination clone of herself known as AlterKate who is closer in personality to Kate in Song of the Swans. Despite these two stories possibly being no longer canon, it makes the most sense that Kate in Song of the Swans is the product of the Stromling Saga's Kate and AlterKate being merged together during the stories' unwritten hiatus, with AlterKate's personality dominating, but this is not yet stated to have occurred,

Relationships

Despite Kate and Cyclone being together throughout the entire Stromling Saga, a potential relationship between Kate and Intrepid was revealed at the end of Transdimensional Maneuvers. Due to interference from that story and Song of the Swan's Future Dimension and Maelstrom Dimension, it seems unlikely that an Intrepid-Kate relationship will occur. The reason a Cyclone-Kate relationship was never seriously considered in the Stromling Saga is that the author was raised with an aversion to romance and subsequently avoided it in his stories until recently.
