Summary

In another dimension the Nexus Force never had a chance. The Nexus was still saved, but barely. With less Imagination to work with, the Faction Leaders' effort was crippled from the start. In a desperate plan to save themselves, the Nexus Force discovered Transdimensionl Travel. They may have succeeded had the Darkitect not learnt what they'd done and recreated the technology for himself, to make contact with Maelstrom other dimensions. There was a meeting of the Maelstroms and an alliance between three Darkitects.

The Maelstrom, under the mysterious, unanticipated, and uncounterable combined leadership of three Darkitects infected everything in the First dimension's fragments of Crux. The Faction Leaders became SubDarkitects of the First Darkitect. Spacefaring Maelstrom infected the nearby worlds, infected starships took Stromlings to new worlds. Infected factories built more starships than ever before. All of Kadrus was infected, even satellites were sent in the direction of other galaxies, but whether they can outrun the expansion of the universe is a story to be finished in time. The war was over in his dimension, global infection was achieved, and the First Darkitect turned his back on the other two.

Now left to win his own victory, which could not come fast enough, the Second Darkitect was enraged at the betrayal and consumed the Third Darkitect. But power over the Third's forces was not immediately handed over to the Second, who himself disappeared, relinquishing his Dimension's control as well. Nothing like this had happened before. His interest piqued by the power vacuum, the First Darkitect claimed the void himself. Now in control of three Dimension's entire Maelstrom forces and their technologies, a cohesive unit under the First Darkitect's power, conquest of the remaining two dimensions was decisive and immediate.

Soon the top minds of the Maelstrom learned how to reach other dimensions. Dimensions interesting and uninteresting fell. But the defenders of some dimensions were stronger, more prepared, and able to fight back. So began the Dimensional War.
