Summary

The Dimensional War refers to the month long transdimensional conflict spanning six dimensions of the Ellyew Dimensional Cluster.

Background

Research Into Other Realms began in 3026 AF of the Future Dimension timeline (3006 AF in the Primary Dimension) shortly after the end of the Maelstrom War in that dimension.

At the same time forces in the Maelstrom Dimension led by the First Darkitect began studying disruptions in their dimension's spacetime at the edges of the Maelstrom Vortex's arms that naturally occurred over the course of many years. They discovered breaches into Unverse occurring as Maelstrom interacted with the atomic structure of the universe, and that the Vortex's arms reached into Unverse, although they did not yet know it was Unverse. At the First Darkitect's bidding, a link was formed between the Maelstrom Vortex's excursion into Unverse and other Maelstrom-induced breaches, including those from another dimension, leading to the discovery of that other dimension and its subsequent invasion...

Now in control of a second Dimension with a full understanding of Unverse travel, the First Darkitect began looking at ways to artificially induce contact with more dimensions using technology from its newly acquired dimension, which had begun its own Unverse research, and using that technology he succeeded. In 3034 AF of the Maelstrom and Future Dimension timelines (3014 in the Primary Dimension), the Maelstrom Dimension launched a devastating attack on the Future Dimension's Nimbus City, but was repulsed. Cognizant of the new threat, the Future Dimension's Nexus Force rearmed itself and launched a crippling counterattack using its anti-Maelstrom tech, and the Maelstrom Dimension's efforts appeared to be stunted for a good many years.

Transdimensional research continued on both sides. Funding was increased to the Future Dimension's Unverse research, spearheaded by Future Dimension's Leek Works, and missions to explore the Multiverse commenced. The Maelstrom Dimension meanwhile resumed its efforts, quietly this time, its operatives deliberately avoiding travelers from the Future Dimension, and silently took over a third dimension while sending spies to many more dimensions, including the Janitor and Primary Dimensions.

The decade of no-contact between Maelstrom and Future dimensions had the First Darkitect's desired effects on the politics of the Future Dimension's Nexus Republic, who sought to cease funding Research Into Other Realms under the flawed belief that the Maelstrom Dimension was not a threat, despite the protestations of Future Dimension's Aiden Talmid.

In 3048 AF of the Future Dimension timeline, which is 3028 AF of the Primary Dimension timeline, the Maelstrom Dimension launched an all-out attack on the Primary Dimension's Avant Gardens, beginning, from the perspective of the Primary Dimension, the Dimensional War.
