Maelstrom Energy is a chaotic energy driving everything Maelstrom. It exists essential and ambient to all things Maelstrom, infecting everything it reaches.

The source of Maelstrom is unknown, but it naturally exists most commonly as the crystalline Maelstrom Ore. The Ore itself is highly communicable and can quickly adapt itself to infect other mediums such as liquid, gas, and other solids.

Somehow Maelstrom Energy in liquid state has naturally evolved into the primitive Darklings, beings of pure Maelstrom Energy whose sole directive is to spread Maelstrom Energy locomotively.
