I am uncertain whether 10 years even would have been enough. If it's been impossible to dechiper Linear A in the given time, I doubt we'd be able to decode an alien language (and/or writing system - or rather communication representation system in general, as aliens might have a very different system than writing) in much less. Though, yeah, I understand how the word limit is a problem.
