Summary

The distinction for the longest serving Star Force aerospacecraft is bequeathed unto the venerated USFI Star Cruiser II, launched in 2504 as the second-generation B-215b and finally retired ten years later as the fourth-generation B-415b in 2514, when the replacement B-515c Star Cruiser III was launched.

Building on the profile of the first Star Cruiser, the Cruiser II increased both forward armament and its bomb payload, adding another pair of MP1200 phasers, enlarging the torpedo launcher, relocating bomb racks to the aft, and adding two rocket racks off the fuselage. While far from unrivaled in terms of forward firepower (the behemothic Thunderbolt XL, Phantom, Spitfire I, and Neptune outnumber it in pure gun counts), the Cruiser's comparatively light airframe and lean profile lend it increased speed and agility, leading to increased survivability and ultimately greater effectiveness as a gun platform. The Cruiser is capable of dogfighting.

Star Cruiser II Improved

Shortly after its launch, design improvements penned by Federation Captain Spitfire Mad were adapted to the Cruiser II's original design. Henceforward, the two model variants were known as the "Original" and the "Improved", the latter of which persevered for the rest of the Cruiser's illustrious service. The landing gear improvements in particular would be adapted to nearly all USFI aerospacecraft going forward, until the standardization of repulsorlifts.
